[A] Shopping at the Jungle [B] Item Information [C] Miscellaneous
[1] Orders

[1.1] I don't have any money right now. Can you hold items for me until next month?
We're sorry, but without a deposit we cannot hold items for you for more than 3 days.

[1.2] I want to save on shipping. Can you hold items so I can combine orders?
Yes. If you wish, we will charge a deposit (the item price) to your credit card, then you may have an extra 1-2 weeks to make order additions. Please indicate you want an open order when you place your order. With IPMO/cash payment, please first confirm your order then send the initial order total. Then you may send the balance when we finalize your order.

[1.3] I found an item I want. Please send me an estimate.
It's best you "order" the item using our website first. We will send an order status message with totals right away, and you may cancel then if you like.

[1.4] Can I cancel an order after it has been placed?
Regular orders may be cancelled anytime up until we charge and ship, but confirmed preorders/backorders may not be cancelled (see [2.3] Can I cancel a preorder/backorder?).

[1.5] I want faster service. Can you process my order more quickly?
Yes. When ordering please use the "Ship my order immediately" checkbox on the order form. Of course, please carefully note the condition & comments on used items before asking us to do this - we cannot accept returns once we have shipped your order (see [5.1] May I return an item?).

[2] Preorders/Backorders

[2.1] Can I special-order an item?
We will gladly back-order current-release DVDs or CDs for you, but we cannot accept special orders for character goods at this time. You will be charged for the item's regular retail price plus our standard ship/handling fees. Please assume limited- or 1st edition items are sold out, unless you pre-ordered. Generally, it takes us 1-2 weeks to stock your back orders, but CDs may take extra time. We no longer accept special order for VHS tapes or LDs. Please tell us your item's catalog number if at all possible. We strongly encourage credit card payment for back orders; if you must use an IPMO/cash payment, your order will take much longer: we will first send you an estimate and then place your backorder when your payment arrives. If you are pre-ordering an item, we must insist on credit card payment (see [2.4] Can I use IPMO/cash payment for a preorder/backorder?).

[2.2] Can I preorder DVDs/CDs that are not listed on your site?
Yes. We try to update our DVD/CD Preorder List as quickly as possible, but if your title is not in there please email us. Tell us the title you would like, along with its catalog number, retail price, and release date, if you know.

[2.3] Can I cancel a preorder / backorder?
If you have confirmed the order earlier, no. Please understand that after you confirm your preorder/backorder, we cannot accept cancellations. If you must cancel, we can no longer accept your pre/backorders in the future.

[2.4] Can I use IPMO/cash payment for a preorder/backorder?
We must insist that customers use credit card payment only for preorders. We can accept IPMO / cash payment for current release backorders, but discourage them due to the extra time required and the risk of items selling out (see [2.1] Can I special-order an item?).

[3] Payment

[3.1] May I use another person's credit card?
First, if your are a minor, *please* have your credit card-holding guardian order for you.
3rd party credit cards, including immediate family and friends, may not be used unless you first send us a FAX / scan of the credit card and the card holder's picture ID, as well as the standard credit card info we always require (card type, number + secret 3-digit PIN number, expiration, holder's name, billing address). Submit your credit card info when you order, or use our secure comments form.

[3.2] Do you accept Paypal?
Yes,we can accept Paypal.
Paypal is now available.
When you place an order with Paypal , please write "PAYPAL" in the comment blank.

[3.3] When can I expect Jungle charges to appear on my credit card bill?
We only process credit card bills with our card company every two weeks. Your charges with us should appear between 1-2 months after your order, with the name "Jungle Honten."

[3.4] Will I have to pay customs duties or taxes?
Every country has its own policies - please contact your local customs office for information. You are responsible for paying any liable taxes, and Jungle is not responsible for any delivery delays, loss, or theft due to customs inspections. We will gladly label your merchandise a "GIFT" and use a personal sender's name if you wish, but we must always declare the actual item value of your order (as of Aug 1st, 2003).

[4] Shipping

[4.1] When will my package arrive?
Now here's a common question! Delivery times vary by location, but EMS packages generally require 3-6 days to deliver. Please see our help page's Shipping Options section for more details.
You may track EMS packages online at Japan Post's Website). You will need the package's EMS number, however (13-character string concluding in "JP").

[4.2] I think my package is lost. What should I do?
If your package is running a week or more late (see rough delivery times in [4.1] When will my package arrive?), please inquire with your post office to trace the package and then contact us. We will ask Japan Post to trace the parcel as well. If your package is really lost, we cannot provide a refund, but will help you collect applicable postal insurance.

[4.3] Customs is holding my package! Do something!
This is unfortunate, but we are powerless to help you. You are considered an importer of foreign goods and subject to your country's customs taxes and regulations (see [3.4] Will I have to pay customs duties or taxes?). If you must pay customs a fee before they will release your package, please be a patriot and pay up. Also, Jungle cannot be held responsible if customs officers remove or deface hentai items in your shipment because they are illegal in your country.

[4.4] Why does Jungle only use EMS shipping now?
On Feb 11th, 2005 we downsized our international staff and had to streamline our service. Our mail-order department decided to continue international shipments, but that it was necessary to limit shipping options to EMS only.

[5] Returns
[5.1] May I return an item?
Our used items are sold "as-is" and we accept returns only in case of mistakenly-sent merchandise. For new (not used) items, we will provide a replacement of defective merchandise, though we may have to replace 1st edition items with regular editions subject to availability. Jungle will reimburse the return shipping costs. Customers must contact us with return claims within 1 week of receiving their merchandise.
[6] Watchlist Service
[6.1] Can you tell me what is on my watchlist?
Compiling lists is time-consuming so please keep careful track on your own. We will try our best to send you your list upon request, however.
[7] Buybacks

[7.1] Will Jungle buyback or trade for my used DVD/CD/LD/VHS?
We're sorry, but Jungle Osaka must refuse all international buybacks/trades. Also, Jungle L.A. is not currently accepting buybacks/trades.

[8] Communications

[8.1] I'm having trouble emailing Jungle/I'm still waiting for Jungle's reply...
If your mail to Jungle bounces or you have waited 48 hours or more for our reply, please contact us directly using our Questions/Comments Form. Tightened security on the internet may have cut down on viruses and spam, but legitimate email to and from our international customers is sometimes blocked, as well.

[8.2] Do you take phone calls?
You may phone us anytime, but please be aware no native English speakers are on the staff. If you wish to submit your credit card information, please fax us at (+81) 6-6636-7449 or you may use or Questions/Comments Form online (it is SSL-encrypted for security).

[B] Item Information

[1] Is your merchandise new? Used?
Our DVD/LD/CD/VHS items are almost entirely preowned (used). Only items with a condition rank of "N" are brand-new. Our character goods (figures, plush, magazines, etc) are all new unless clearly stated otherwise. Check our item condition ranks for more info.

[2] Will your DVDs work in my DVD player?
Unless noted otherwise, please assume our DVDs are NTSC format and Region Code 2, only compatible with DVD players made for the Japanese or European market. They will not work with DVD players made for Region 1 (N.America) or elsewhere. Please check whether your DVD player is compatible with Region 2 DVDs before ordering! See [B5] Does Jungle sell region-free DVD players? below for info on all-region DVD players.

[3] What are Region Codes? What are NTSC/PAL DVDs?
For answers to all of your technical DVD questions, please see the excellent DVD Demystified site by Jim Taylor. Here are shortcuts to his desciptions of Region Codes and NTSC / PAL formats.

[4] Do your DVDs/LDs/VHS tapes have English subtitles?
Almost all of our DVDs are straight Japanese language only. Of course, most Hollywood movies and other non-Japanese films come in their original language with Japanese subtitles or voicetrack added. Chris Beveridge's great Anime On DVD site maintains a handy list of Japanese Region 2 anime DVDs with English language. Another excellent resource for buyers of Japanese DVDs is Brad Nightscale's Script Club archive.

[5] Does Jungle sell region-free DVD players?
No, but other online retailers like DVD City have them available. Pick one up! ^_^

[6] Does Jungle sell LD players?
No. Even in Japan new factory-fresh LD players have become tough to find (March, 2003 writing). Used players are often listed on eBay or Yahoo online auctions.

[7] What is laser rot?
Some laserdiscs are prone to deterioration over time due to "laser rot:" chemical contaminants or gasses trapped inside LDs during their manufacture gradually damage the disk's data layer. A disk with laser rot may play fine when new, but later develop playback problems like skipping or picture degradation. Laser rot is not visible when looking at the disk's surface - if your LD seems to be afflicted, make sure it isn't dirty or scratched and try it in other players. If the trouble persists, there is no way to fix it. Jungle does not accept returns of "laser rotten" LDs; instead, all of our LDs have been summarily discounted. Please notify us if you have concerns when purchasing LDs and we will check for playback trouble. There have not yet been any DVDs or CDs with laser rot problems (March 2003).

[8] This Avex CD doesn't work in my CD-Rom drive! (What are CCCDs?)
It is probably a CCCD (Copy-Control CD) which is coded to prevent "ripping" tracks or making backup copies. They are designed to function normally in standard CD players, but are incompatible with any deck that is capable of playing or recording CD-ROMs. This inconvenience and several other reported bugs with the format have disappointed many consumers. Avex started making CCCD titles in Feb. 2002, and Toshiba, and Victor have now started releasing them as well (March, 2003 writing). We try to identify CCCD titles online, but if you have any concerns when ordering a recent release, please leave us a comment when ordering.
Sony Music announced on 9/30/2004 that they will no longer produce CCCDs as of mid November 2004. CCCD's biggest proponent, Avex, has also announced they will phase out the format. [Oct 2004 writing]

[9] Can you split up DVD/LD sets? I only need 1 or 2 volumes.
We're sorry, but we cannot.

[10] Can you sell me just an item's 1st ed. omake?
We're sorry, but we cannot.

[C] Miscellaneous

[1] Please send me a catalogue.
Sorry, but we do not print a hard-copy catalog because our inventory changes everyday. Please search our online catalogue.

[2] Will you bring my (requests/items I've ordered) to Convention X? I'd like to pick them up at the Jungle booth later.
We're sorry, but we decide which items we'll bring to conventions in advance and cannot take any requests.

[3] Can I order items from Osaka and pick them up in Jungle L.A?
We're sorry, but no. Also, Jungle L.A. does not yet ship overseas.

[4] Will you be my agent for a Yahoo Japan auction? I need a go-between who is located in Japan.
We're sorry, but we cannot.

[5] Can Jungle help me mail in my DVD proof-of-purchase coupons so I can get omake items?
Yes, but only on several conditions:
  • You must have bought all of the concerned items at Jungle.
  • We must receive your coupons and all necessary materials at least 10 days before the offer deadline.
  • You must use registered mail and cover all postage costs: sending your coupons to us, our sending the coupons to the manufacturer, any COD charges when we receive your goods, and the return postage.
  • We charge a Y1,500 fee for this service.
  • When we get your items, you agree to ship them back with your next order, not alone.
This arrangement may seem too strict, but we must be as careful as possible with your redemption offers.

[6] I'd like to link to the Jungle. How should I do that?
Please email us with your web site's name and URL. Then check our link exchange page to download graphics and banners. Do not link directly to any graphics on our web site.
